Welink Energy and Chaaks Partner to Expand Shared Power Bank Market in Africa in 2027
Welink Energy has announced a strategic partnership with Chaaks to jointly expand the shared power bank market in Africa, starting with Kenya and the broader East African region.
The cooperation brings together Welink New Energy’s experience in shared power bank manufacturing, rental station development and white-label software solutions with Chaaks’ local market resources, channel network and operational capabilities in Kenya. The two companies aim to provide convenient and scalable mobile charging services for consumers while creating new business opportunities for local partners.
Meeting Growing Mobile Charging Demand in Africa
As smartphone usage and mobile payment services continue to grow across Africa, consumers increasingly depend on their phones for communication, transportation, social media, shopping and financial services.
This growing dependence also creates stronger demand for convenient charging solutions in public and commercial spaces.
Through the partnership, Welink Energy and Chaaks plan to deploy shared power bank rental stations in high-traffic locations such as shopping malls, restaurants, bars, hotels, entertainment venues, transportation hubs and event locations.
Users will be able to rent portable power banks conveniently and continue using their mobile devices without remaining next to a fixed charging point.
Multiple Shared Power Bank Stations for Different Locations
To meet different operating requirements, the project will introduce several station models.
The 12-slot basic shared power bank station is designed for smaller commercial locations such as restaurants, cafés, retail stores and hotels. Its compact design and lower deployment cost make it suitable for businesses testing the power bank rental model.
The 24-slot shared power bank station with digital screen provides greater capacity while supporting advertising and promotional content, making it suitable for shopping malls, nightlife venues and larger commercial locations.
For high-traffic environments, the 40-slot shared power bank station provides higher battery capacity and improved availability during peak usage periods.
Combining Manufacturing with Local Operations
The cooperation goes beyond the export of charging equipment.
Welink New Energy will provide hardware manufacturing, shared power banks, software systems, remote device management and technical support, while Chaaks will focus on local market development, device placement, daily operations and partner cooperation in Kenya.
Welink New Energy also supports OEM and ODM shared power bank solutions, including customized station branding, power bank logos, white-label rental interfaces, operator management systems, QR-code rental and API integration.
This flexible model allows local operators to build and manage their own shared charging brands.
Expanding Across East Africa
Kenya will serve as an important starting point for the partnership’s development in East Africa.
Following the initial deployment, Welink New Energy and Chaaks plan to evaluate opportunities in additional cities and markets, gradually building a broader shared power bank rental network in Africa.
Through the combination of intelligent manufacturing and localized operations, both companies aim to provide reliable mobile charging infrastructure and support the continued development of Africa’s sharing economy.
